Sundance Film Festival
It was the year 1978 when Sundance was started in Utah and the main aim was to draw filmmaking talent to Utah. It was founded by Mr. Van, Mr. John, and Ms. Cirina. It was the dedicated efforts of Chairperson Mr. Robert and Mr. Scott who was the Governor of Utah which gave a chance to the American movie makers to showcase their talent. It also emphasizes the prospective of the independent film and enhancing the chances of movie making in Utah. Different competitions were offered for the independent American filmmakers and also celebrating Frank Capra Award.
In the year 1979 Sundance Film Festival more than fifty films were screened and Mr. Jimmy won the Frank Capra Award. The festival is remembered now also because it made a major profit in that year. It was the year of 1980 when Ms. Catania left the Festival in order to pursue a career in production in Hollywood. There are so many big and small elements which helped in the success of Sundance Film Festival. From the different elements the participation of Mr. Robert was very important. Mr. Robert who basically belonged to Utah was the first chairman of the festival and only his association of his name created a great excitement.
America also required a place where the movies made in America are showcased. Hollywood’s response was terrific and some of the best directors gave their contribution in it. The festival was shifted to Park City, Utah in the year 1981. The event was also organized in the mid-winter and it was advised from Ms. Sydney who is a famous Hollywood director. She suggested that organizing film festival in a skiing resort will have more people coming. In the year 1985, Sundance Institute which was non-profit association took the control of the management of the Festival. It was the year of 1991 that the festival got the official name of Sundance Film Festival. With the help of this festival movies like Super Troopers, The Blair Witch Project, Reservoir Dogs, Saw, Garden State, got recognition.
